Noah

15-year-old with Down syndrome

Grownups don’t understand Noah’s smoldering desire for independence. Worst of all, they won’t let him say the F word! Noah is functionally independent and talkative, but his thinking is more magical than logical.

A slight stutter and poor articulation, combined with Noah's fierce determination and enviable self-confidence is the perfect storm for miscommunication.

In Noah’s disarming presence, people view their challenges from an enlightened perspective, giving them renewed insight, clarity,  and  inspiration.

In truth, Noah’s just a punk  teenager with a good heart out to have some fun.

His innocent embrace of  the good is contagious.

Sean & Diamond, 20-ish

Sean didn’t plan on selling cocaine, but like his incarcerated father, it’s the only business he knows. He has risen from poverty to become a focused businessman intent on protecting his brother and stepping up as the patriarch.

Diamond has a heart of gold and a deep moral compass. He may seem a bit daft, but maybe, just maybe, there’s wisdom in his lunacy. His connection with Noah’s innocence is a testament to a common thread in humanity.

Josh & Cherry, older/wiser

Josh is a romantic who got ahead of himself selling cocaine to sustain an art gallery he opened to prove himself worthy of his girlfriend. Now, he can’t even summon the courage to face the only woman who gives him confidence to be himself. Even worse, when his girlfriend was injured in a ski accident, he convinced himself she couldn’t possibly love him and wasn’t even able to summon the courage to visit her.

Cherry is a disability ski instructor who finds herself wheelchair-bound after her binding snapped on an early morning run. To make matters worse, Josh has avoided her since the accident. Cherry fears her disability makes her unlovable. When Noah accidentally reunites these estranged soulmates, they realize their love is more powerful than they thought.

Pastor Sam, 35 - looks younger

Pastor Sam is a gay minister recently assigned to a congregation with traditional views. Principled, visionary, idealistic, and devoted, Pastor Sam’s exuberance is all but beaten out of him by congregants who judge his “lifestyle”, his marriage, and the audacity of his pride. When Noah wanders into his church, Pastor Sam is at a breaking point, questioning his faith, his calling, and the value of his existence. Noah’s unwavering faith in God and humanity allow Pastor Sam to experience the dignity of his calling and reignite his passion to lead.

Jodi, late 40s

Jodi is an uber-overprotective caregiver type. Noah’s disability gives Jodi an excuse to never let him out of her sight, but Noah is about to show his mom that he’s made up of stronger stuff than she realizes. Jodi must learn to let go of some control and trust in Noah, and in herself.
